How it works
In forex trading, a pip is the smallest standard price move, and its monetary value depends on your position size. This calculator finds it. You enter your position size in units and the pip size for your pair, and it returns the value of one pip in the quote currency. The pip value is simply the position size times the pip size. For most pairs a pip is the fourth decimal place, 0.0001, so a standard lot of 100,000 units has a pip value of $10 when the quote currency is the US dollar; a mini lot of 10,000 units gives $1 per pip, and a micro lot of 1,000 gives $0.10. Pairs involving the Japanese yen quote to two decimals, so their pip size is 0.01. Knowing the pip value is essential for risk management: it tells you how much money you gain or lose for each pip the market moves, which lets you size positions to control risk and set stop-loss levels in dollar terms. If the quote currency differs from your account currency, you convert the pip value using the exchange rate; this calculator gives the value in the quote currency, the common first step. Traders use it constantly to plan and monitor trades. Enter your position size and pip size to compute the pip value.
Pip value = position size × pip size
The value of one pip in the quote currency equals your position size in units multiplied by the pip size. For most currency pairs a pip is 0.0001, so a standard lot of 100,000 units gives a pip value of $10 when the quote currency is US dollars. Pairs quoted against the yen use a pip size of 0.01.

Frequently asked questions
What is a pip in forex?
A pip is the standard smallest unit of price movement for a currency pair, usually the fourth decimal place, or 0.0001. For pairs quoted against the Japanese yen, a pip is the second decimal, 0.01. Pips let traders measure and communicate price changes and gains or losses in a consistent way.
How do you calculate pip value?
Multiply your position size in units by the pip size. A standard lot of 100,000 units with a pip size of 0.0001 gives a pip value of $10 in the quote currency. The calculator does this for any position size and pip size, giving the value of a one-pip move.
Why does pip value matter?
Pip value tells you the money at stake for each pip the market moves, which is central to risk management. It lets you size positions so a stop-loss of a certain number of pips risks only a set dollar amount, and it helps you understand your potential gains and losses before entering a trade.
What is a standard, mini, and micro lot?
A standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency, a mini lot is 10,000, and a micro lot is 1,000. With a 0.0001 pip, these give pip values of about $10, $1, and $0.10 respectively for dollar-quoted pairs. Smaller lots let traders take positions with less capital and lower risk per pip.
What if my account currency is different?
This calculator gives the pip value in the quote currency of the pair. If your account is in a different currency, convert the pip value using the current exchange rate between the quote currency and your account currency. That conversion gives the pip value in the terms your account is actually measured in.
