How it works

Selling on Amazon through Fulfillment by Amazon involves several fees that cut into your margin, and this calculator shows the real profit per unit. You enter the selling price, your landed product cost, the FBA fulfillment fee, and the referral fee percentage, and it returns your profit per unit, your profit margin, and the total Amazon fees. Amazon charges two main fees on FBA sales: the referral fee, a percentage of the sale price that varies by category, most commonly around 15 percent but ranging from about 8 to 20 percent, and the FBA fulfillment fee, a per-unit charge based on the item's size and weight that covers storage-adjacent picking, packing, and shipping to the customer. The calculation subtracts the product cost and both fees from the selling price. Your landed product cost should include not just the unit price from your supplier but also inbound shipping, duties, and per-unit prep, so the profit figure reflects reality. Many new Amazon sellers underestimate how much the combined fees reduce margins, sometimes discovering a product is barely profitable or a loss once everything is counted. This calculator helps you evaluate whether a product is worth selling, set a price that hits your target margin, and compare products. It covers the core fees; monthly storage fees, long-term storage fees, returns, and advertising are additional and vary. Enter your price, cost, and fees to find the profit per unit.

Formula

Profit = price − product cost − FBA fee − price × referral%

Amazon FBA profit per unit is the selling price minus the landed product cost, the FBA fulfillment fee that covers picking, packing, and shipping, and the referral fee, which Amazon charges as a percentage of the sale price (commonly 8 to 15 percent by category). The margin is profit divided by the selling price.

Frequently asked questions

What fees does Amazon charge FBA sellers?

The two main fees are the referral fee, a percentage of the sale price that varies by category (commonly around 15 percent), and the FBA fulfillment fee, a per-unit charge based on size and weight that covers picking, packing, and shipping. There are also monthly storage fees and possible long-term storage fees, which this calculator does not include.

How do I calculate Amazon FBA profit?

Subtract your landed product cost, the FBA fulfillment fee, and the referral fee from the selling price. The referral fee is a percentage of the price, so multiply the price by the referral rate. The remainder is your profit per unit. The calculator also shows the margin and total fees for a clear picture.

What should be included in product cost?

Use your landed cost, which includes the unit price from your supplier plus inbound shipping to Amazon, import duties or tariffs, and any per-unit prep or packaging. Using only the supplier's unit price understates your true cost and overstates profit. A complete landed cost gives an accurate profit figure.

What is a good margin for Amazon FBA?

Many sellers target a net margin of at least 15 to 30 percent after all fees and product costs, leaving room for advertising, returns, and storage. Thin margins are risky on Amazon because fees, ad costs, and competition can quickly erode them. Higher margins provide a buffer and more room to invest in growth.

What costs does this calculator not include?

This calculator covers the product cost, FBA fulfillment fee, and referral fee. It does not include monthly and long-term storage fees, advertising and PPC costs, returns and refunds, the monthly professional selling plan fee, or removal fees. Factor these in separately, as they can meaningfully reduce your actual net profit per unit.
