How it works
Estimating when a delivery will arrive helps with planning and customer communication, and this calculator provides an ETA from distance, speed, and stops. You enter the distance, the average speed, and any total stop time, and it returns the total delivery time and the pure driving time. The driving time is simply distance divided by average speed, and adding the stop time gives a more realistic total, since real trips include breaks, fueling, loading and unloading, and traffic slowdowns that a pure distance-over-speed calculation ignores. Using an average speed rather than a top speed is important: highway driving averages less than the speed limit once you account for merging, congestion, and slower segments, and mixed or urban driving averages much lower, so choose an average speed that reflects the actual route conditions. For long-haul trucking, legally mandated rest breaks and hours-of-service limits add substantial time, which you can include in the stop time. This calculator is useful for dispatchers estimating arrival times, drivers planning routes, businesses setting delivery expectations, and anyone estimating a road trip. It gives the travel duration; to get an actual arrival clock time, add the result to your departure time. Keep in mind it is an estimate, and real conditions like weather, traffic, and road work can extend it. Enter the distance, average speed, and stop time to estimate the delivery time.
Driving time = distance / average speed ; total = driving + stops
The driving time is the distance divided by the average speed. Adding the total stop time, converted from minutes to hours, gives the full delivery time. Stops for breaks, fuel, loading, and traffic delays add to the pure driving time to give a realistic estimate.

Frequently asked questions
How is delivery ETA calculated?
Divide the distance by the average speed to get the driving time, then add the total time spent on stops, converted to hours. The calculator returns both the driving time and the full delivery time. To find the actual arrival clock time, add this duration to your planned departure time.
Why use average speed instead of the speed limit?
Actual average speed is lower than the speed limit because of acceleration, merging, congestion, slower road segments, and turns. Highway trips often average somewhat below the limit, and urban or mixed routes far less. Using a realistic average speed for your route gives a much more accurate ETA than assuming you travel at the limit the whole way.
Should I include rest breaks and fueling?
Yes, for accuracy. Real trips include stops for breaks, meals, fuel, and loading or unloading, which add to pure driving time. For long-haul trucking, legally required rest breaks and hours-of-service rules add significant time. Enter the total expected stop time so the ETA reflects the whole trip, not just time behind the wheel.
How accurate is the ETA?
It is an estimate based on the average speed and stop time you enter. Real conditions such as heavy traffic, weather, road construction, and unexpected delays can make the actual arrival later. Use a conservative average speed and adequate stop time, and treat the result as a planning estimate rather than a guaranteed arrival.
Can I use this for a road trip?
Yes. The same calculation works for any drive: enter the trip distance, a realistic average speed for the roads you will travel, and the time you expect to spend on breaks, meals, and fuel stops. The total gives your estimated travel time, which you can add to your departure time to plan your arrival.
